The HHSRS identifies 29 categories of potential housing hazards that could cause harm to residents. These hazards range from physical safety issues to environmental risks.

- Falls associated with baths, stairs, or on the level
- Electrical and fire safety
- Collision and entrapment risks
- Explosions and structural collapse
Each of these hazards is assessed based on the likelihood and potential severity of harm they could cause. The goal is to eliminate or reduce these hazards to ensure a safe and healthy living environment.
